September has come and gone and with the arrival of a new month, autumn in Noboribetsu Onsen takes on a bigger role. Inspired by the cooler weather here in Hokkaido, our chef at Takimoto Inn has come up with two wonderful dishes to match the season.

Herb flavored pork fillet cutlet with warm vegetable

Tender inside with a crispy outside, our pork fillet comes with a healthy dose of roasted vegetables. The demi-glace sauce is especially lovely with the bread set, although we also quite like the tonkatsu brown sauce with rice set. (You could have it twice and try both!)
Served with rice or bread, soup and salad for 1,200 yen, including tax.

Rice gratin with chicken and loin ham

Sakurahime chicken, named for its cherry-colored meat, is the perfect companion for the creamy cheese sauce of this doria. A baked rice dish similar to a gratin, dorias became part of Japanese cuisine after the Meiji Restoration when the ban on eating meat was lifted and Western-style foods were popularized. In this classic version, the flavors balance well with the ham and vegetables making it irresistible and satisfying.
Served with soup and salad for 1,000 yen, including tax.

We will also take this opportunity to highlight a favorite of ours from the Grand Menu.

Hamburg steak

A dish popularized during the 1960s in Japan, the Hamburg steak uses a combination of beef and pork mixed with onions, egg, and breadcrumbs and covered with a rich gravy. Served with noodles and wedge-cut potatoes, it is very nice with the bread set. It is perfect after a hike to see the colors in Jigokudani (Hell Valley).
By itself, the Hamburg Steak is 1,000 yen, including tax.
For an additional 350 yen, it can be served as a set meal that includes rice or bread, soup and salad.
