One of the special events every summer are the Oni Hanabi (Demon’s Fireworks). For twelve years, the number of people who come to see this unique fireworks festival has grown.

This year, the event will be held every Thursday and Friday during June and July in nearby Jigokudani (Hell Valley) starting at 8:30pm.

On Thursday of last week, around 7:30pm people began to gather in Jigokudani to see the fireworks. In fact, Noboribetsu Tourism Association reported that the number of visitors that day was 4,200!

After this, it will steadily increase.

Just before the fireworks begin, the Yukijin, demons of the hot springs, appear to welcome guests and begin the fireworks display that will frighten away evil spirits. However, it can be difficult to see the stage with so many people. Despite this, guests at Dai-ichi Takimotokan can leave by 8:05pm at the latest and still find plenty of room. (Even if you are a little full after our delicious Summer Set Menu and walking slowly, you can make it to Jigokudani in ten minutes.)

Even so, when the fireworks begin, everyone’s cheers are fueled by their power. Launched from a high place, every visitor has a great view of the action.

The show lasts about fifteen minutes, but no one pays attention to the time while this great show is going.

This is how it looked at the end, when all 4,200 people left after this amazing show.

Please remember not to push or rush after the Oni Hanabi. We recommend taking the opportunity to simply enjoy the cool night air on the way back.
