We are very excited to announce the 56th Annual Hell Festival in Noboribetsu Onsen. Held each summer in our little corner of Hokkaido, this festival is a spectacular local event that marks the end of the season and a very special visit.<\/p>\n

The festival, which marks the time of year when the gates of Jigokudani (Hell Valley) open, and Enma, the King of Hell, emerges to walk the streets of the city with his demons. <\/p>\n

This year, the festival will begin on Friday, August 23 and last until Sunday, August 25. Last year, there were many events such as the taiko show, the onsen slide, the classic Oni Mikoshi (portable demon shrines dedicated to the Hell King and carried by dancing ogres), and devil mask wearing dancers. In Noboribetsu Onsen, preparations are underway!<\/p>\n

When the sun goes down and the lanterns come on, it is a festive feeling.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In Sengen Park, across from Dai-ichi Takimotokan, a stage will be set up for various events. Just up the hill from it and toward Jigokudani, is the day visitor entrance for our onsen baths and opposite is a public parking lot. <\/p>\n

The strange objects under the blue tarps are mysterious, and the biggest of them is taller than an adult. <\/p>\n
