Hell Festival Starting Soon!

Many schools have already started their fall semester since the Obon Festival in Hokkaido finished for this year. What kind of special memories do you have from this summer?

Our recommendation for August at this time as summer concludes is the 54th Norboribetsu Hell Festival!

Preparation is already underway here at Noboribetsu Onsen.

You can see in the above picture that the summer weather has returned and that the decorative street lamps are hung. If you look closely, you will see that Hell Festival is written on their sides. When the festival finally begins, there will be many stalls lined up beneath them.

I also happened to talk with a worker hanging the lanterns, and he said it was a tough job during the hot weather. However, they lights will be lovely after sunset. Here is a look at our onsen town now at night!

The song playing all the time now is “Nobirbetsu Jigoku Bayashi.” It is the theme song of this festival, and so I am excited that the Hell Festival will happen soon!

The 54th Hell Festival will start at 12pm on Saturday, August 26th. There are plenty of events, such as the Wadaiko show, the Enman Daio Karakuri float, and the Oni-Odori or Demon Dance! Guests who love a bit of spirited adventure can participate in the Demon Dance, too!

Takimaru-kun will also be at the Hell Festival, and there will be a chance to play and dance with him. Please come and visit!

*Please keep in mind that the number of parking spaces nearby is limited. We encourage you to use public transportation as much as possible on your way to visit us.

We look forward to seeing you at the festival!
